Members of the SAPS deployed to address gang violence in the Western Cape arrested two suspects in possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition. As part of Operation Restore, police conducted high-density patrols in Endlovini, in the Harare when they noticed an unknown male who acted suspiciously when he saw them.

‘Police searched the man and found a sling bag in his possession containing a 9mm pistol with ammunition,’ police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed. ‘The 31-year-old suspect was arrested and detained for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.’
In an unrelated intervention as part of Operation Restore, members of the National Public Order Police responded to a complaint of discharging of a firearm in a municipal area on Saturday.
‘The members proceeded to Zodiac Street in Lingelethu West where they spotted the suspect who fitted the description,’ Swartbooi added. ‘They apprehended the suspect, searched him and confiscated a Norinco 9mm pistol with ammunition.’
‘They arrested and detained the 36-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.’
‘Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrate court on the mentioned charges.’
Meanwhile on Thursday, police retrieved unlicensed firearms and ammunition and drugs when four suspects were arrested and detained by members of the Anti-Gang Unit and Maitland Flying Squad.
‘Police members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation in Worcester.’
‘They noticed a suspicious vehicle in Altona Circle, stopped the vehicle and searched both occupants. They arrested and detained two males aged 46 and 58 for the possession of Methamphetamine and ammunition.’
Maitland Flying Squad police members also responded to information of unlicensed firearms stored at a premises in Brackenfell.
‘The members proceeded to an address in Avante Crescent, Protea Village.’
‘When they arrived at the premises, an unknown male opened the gate. When he saw the police members he rushed back into the house with police members in pursuit.’
‘They searched the premises and confiscated two firearms with ammunition and arrested and detained a male aged 42 and a female aged 41 for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.’
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Worcester and Blue Downs Magistrate courts.
