Four police officers have been injured, with two hospitalised, after an incident in which an allegedly stolen truck rammed into them. Here’s what we know so far.
The truck was alleged to have been stolen from the TyreRight yard in Oakey overnight, along with a Toyota HiLux, the thieves using the vehicles to ram the gates to escape.
Police tracked the Hino 300 series to Goombungee Meringandan Rd and attempted to pull it over around 1.30pm.
The truck is alleged to have rammed the police car, seriously injuring two officers.
One of those officers was rushed to the Princess Alexandra hospital in a helicopter with head and pelvic injuries. His condition was listed as serious but stable.
The second officer was believed to have shoulder and pelvic injuries and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.
Soon after, the truck hit another two police cars, coming to a stop in Kleinton.
Two officers were treated by paramedics for minor injuries.
The driver of the truck – an adult male – was arrested at the scene.
A witness at the scene told NewsCorp she saw a police officer lying on the ground holding his side and another with a “busted up” face.
“One (of the officers) was on the ground holding his side and the other police officer had a busted up face in an undercover car parked,” she said.
The witness said one of the officers had suffered a facial abrasion.
Traffic controller Paul Russell said he saw the offenders speeding along Peters Road and Thomas Street in the Hino truck, narrowly missing innocent bystanders.
“He came around the corner … and we had road workers in the middle of the road,” he said.
“He almost collected some council road workers (and) he had the driver’s side door open, flapping about.
“He missed me by two feet then went straight through the give way sign.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were also responding to another incident nearby at the Goombungee Waste Facility.
Earlier, police arrested two offenders, aged 19 and 28, who they suspect were responsible for a ram raid on an Oakey business in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police have asked that anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
