The New South Wales (NSW) police have unveiled images in their efforts to enlist public assistance in apprehending the individual(s) responsible for the vandalism of the BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Sydney, Australia. Situated in the Rosehill suburb of Western Sydney, temple authorities discovered defacement in the form of unwanted graffiti on the front wall, along with the presence of a Khalistan flag suspended from its gate.
The incident occurred between 1 am and 2 am on the early morning of Friday, May 5, as confirmed by the results of an investigation conducted by NSW police detectives.
Following their preliminary investigation, the NSW police have made public an image of a vehicle that was last observed travelling along Virginia Street towards James Ruse Drive in Rosehill during the early hours of Friday morning. Authorities believe that the individuals inside the car may possess information crucial to the ongoing investigation or potentially have dashcam footage that could aid in the case.
Superintendent Sheridan Waldau, the Cumberland Commander, expressed optimism that members of the local community might possess pertinent information that could assist in identifying the suspect or the vehicle involved.
In her statement, Superintendent Waldau stated, “We are also hopeful that the person, or the occupants of the car, will contact detectives as we believe they could have information crucial to the investigation.”
NSW Police have released a second image, believed to be of an individual who was observed in the vicinity of the temple around the same time as the first incident.
The person depicted in the image is wearing a mask and dressed in dark clothing, along with a beanie. At present, it remains unclear whether this individual is connected to the vehicle captured in the other image.
Superintendent Waldau emphasised, “NSW Police works closely with members of a widely-diverse community in western Sydney, and it’s disappointing that actions such as these can cause unnecessary distress.”
“Police rely on the support of the local community to provide information, so it can be investigated, but it’s important to know that information provided will be treated with the strictest confidence,” she added.
In an effort to gather any relevant information pertaining to the incident, NSW Police have also made available a contact number and urged members of the public to come forward.
