New Lambton FC 4-0 Adamstown Rosebud JFC
New Lambton proved too strong for Adamstown on Sunday with a 4-0 victory.
The Eagles were able to respond from their defeat to Maitland last week and continue their quest to make finals football.
It was a tight battle for the first 35 minutes of the match, however Adamstown were unable to keep the experienced players from New Lambton quiet.
Lauren Allan opened the scoring with a spectacular long-range strike for th New Lambton side.
A few minutes after Rosebud’s Goal Keeper Olivia Sneddon was unlucky to concede after a strong save saw the Eagle’s Tara Andrews pick up the scraps and score.
Cass Davis played a key role in pulling the strings for New Lambton, slicing a through ball through to Allen, who scored her second of the game.
Macy Anthony was able to put the game well and truly to bed for the Eagles, when she hit the back of the net in the 83rd minute.
Ryan Campbell’s young squad were unable to respond throughout the match, making this their second straight defeat.
Despite the win, New Lambton remain in sixth place and Adamstown hold onto their spot in fifth by three points.
Mid Coast FC 0-7 Charlestown Azzurri FC
Charlestown Azzurri backed up last week’s win, comfortably defeating Mid Coast 0-7 on Sunday.
Niko Papspiropoulos’ side have now climbed up to second on the table, four points behind Magic.
Indianna Asimus from Azzurri was able to open the scoring after being awarded a penalty from a shirt pull inside the box.
Azzurri displayed a dominant performance, with Forward Emily Diaz scoring a hattrick and both Cassie Corder and Indianna Asimus taking two apiece.
Mid Coast continue to sit seventh on the table, 10 points behind New Lambton in sixth.
Newcastle Olympic FC 1-2 Broadmeadow Magic FC
The top of the table clash did not disappoint, with Olympic going down 1-2 to Magic on Sunday afternoon.
Magic proved too be too strong with a confident performance that sees them extend their league lead to four points.
Number 10 Lucy Jerram opened the scoring for Broadmeadow after converting a perfect through ball from Jennifer Reeves.
However, in the second half Magic went down to 10 men in the 50th minute when Jerram received a straight red card.
Despite this, Magic were able to step up and extend their lead to 2, after a confident bottom corner strike from Chelsea Lucas.
Olympic were not able to capitalise on having an extra man until the final minutes of stoppage time, when Marion Dunbabin scored with a header at the back post.
This is Olympic’s second loss of the season and sees them slip down to third place on the table below Charlestown Azzurri.
Maitland FC 4-0 Warners Bay FC
Maitland made it three wins in a wrong with a 4-0 win against Warners Bay on Sunday.
Some may have thought this would be another repeat of the 19-0 thrashing the Magpies unleashed on the Panthers last time they met in Round 4. However, Warners Bay were able to hold Maitland out to a more respectable score.
Maitland were able to build on the confidence from their previous performances and grind out a sufficient win against the bottom of the table side.
Number 9 Lucy Kell scored twice for her side, taking Maitland to the sheds 2-0 up at half time.
Not long into the second half, Sophie Stapleford buried a penalty, after her teammate Madeline Howard was clipped in the box.
The Magpies were able to put the game to bed when substitute Chelea Greguric hit the back of the net in the final five minutes of the match.
Despite the result, this is Ryan Swinkels’ side’s best result of the season. The Panthers are still on the hunt for their first points of the season, sitting at the bottom of the table.
This result puts Maitland only one point away from Olympic in third place and helps to strengthen the side’s final hopes.
