Junior ‘A’ Hurling League: The group stages concluded last weekend. In Group 1, Toomevara had an exciting 2-25 to 2-20 win over old rivals Nenagh Eire Og in Toomevara last Friday. The first half was a tit-for-tat affair with little between the sides with David Young (Toome) and Sean Phelan (Eire Og) trading goals mid-way through the half. The impressive Tim Flaherty scored Toome’s second goal just before half time and gave them a 2-12 to 1-10 lead at the break.
Eire Og came within a point midway through the second half but Toome pulled away with five points to spare. Darragh Walsh scored Eire Og’s second goal with Ben West top scoring for the sky blues with 0-10 (4 from play). Tim Flaherty finished with 1-8 (4 frees) for the greyhounds whilst David Young (1-2), Kenny Ryan (0-5) and Robert Delaney (0-4) were also prominent scorers for the victors.
Toomevara topped the group after this win and secure home advantage in the semi-finals. Nenagh Eire Og also progress to the semi’s after finishing second.
In Group 2, Ballinahinch secured top spot after an exciting 2-17 to 1-19 win over Roscrea (who finish second in the group and also progress to the semi-finals). Ballinahinch snatched victory with a goal late in the game.
Borris-Ileigh had a 3-17 to 1-15 win over Silvermines in the second game in the group. Borris were on top throughout and had a 1-10 to 0-6 lead at half time.
Both semi-finals take place this Friday. Toomevara host Roscrea at 7.00pm whilst Ballinahinch host Nenagh Eire Og at 7.30pm in Shalee.
Junior ‘B’ Hurling League: Congratulations to Newport who claimed the North Junior ‘B’ Hurling League last Sunday in Dolla after a much-deserved 1-14 to 2-6 win over Kiladangan. See match report for more details.
Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship: The Watch Centre sponsored North Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship will commence on Friday 30th June with all three games throwing in at 7.30pm. Nenagh Eire Og will face Roscrea in Borrisoleigh, Kilruane MacDonaghs will take on Borris-Ileigh in Roscrea whilst MacDonagh Park, Nenagh will be the venue for the clash of Toomevara v Ballinahinch.
Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship: Group 2 of The Watch Centre sponsored North Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship commences this Sunday with both games throwing in at 7.00pm. Toomevara will host Newport whilst Burgess host Kiladangan with Borrisokane having a bye.
Groups 1 & 3 will commence on Sunday 25th June. In Group 1 – Templederry Kenyons host Lorrha whilst Moneygall host Silvermines. Group 3 sees Portroe host Nenagh Eire Og whilst Knockshegowna host Ballina. Round 2 of Group 2 will also take place on Sunday 25th – Newport will host Borrisokane whilst Kiladangan host Toomevara.
