SYDNEY — Construction work for the second phase of revitalizing Charlotte Street in Sydney will start on Monday.
The Cape Breton Regional Municipality announced Thursday that Charlotte Street, from Pitt to Wentworth streets, will be closed to vehicular traffic for approximately 20 weeks, the municipality said in a news release.
The Prince Street intersection will remain open during the construction period, but may require temporary detours, the release said.
Starting Monday, a team from Coxheath-based Brilun Construction will be on site, installing safety fencing and mobilizing materials and equipment to prepare for the upgrades. During construction, there may be occasional water and power disruptions, and to minimize any inconvenience, residents and businesses will be provided with notices, the release said.
Updates may also be posted via CBRM’s social media channels.
The $9-million Charlotte Street redevelopment project is funded in equal parts by the CBRM, the Government of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada.
