Newcastle United are reportedly willing to listen to offers for their eccentric French winger Allan Saint-Maximin when the summer transfer window opens.
Saint-Maximin joined the Magpies from Nice for around £15million in 2019.
He quickly became a fan favourite at St James’ Park and was one of the few reasons supporters paid to watch their team under Steve Bruce.
The Premier League club are now in a much better place with Eddie Howe in charge and fans have a big summer to look forward to ahead of their side’s return to the Champions League after two decades away from the competition.
There is a lot of talk about incoming transfers, but naturally, some players will have to leave.
One who could depart is Saint-Maximin, who is attracting interest from AC Milan, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
And a report from Football Insider claims that Howe is ‘open’ to selling the Frenchman, ‘if the right offer arrives’.
Saint-Maximin is under contract until 2025 but the January addition of Anthony Gordon from Everton means his departure could be viewed as a no-brainer as Newcastle look to bring in several new players in the summer.
The 26-year-old has often displayed his wonderful skillset but has unfortunately lacked a cutting edge in the final third.
His final ball has constantly let him down, but there is no doubt he is an incredibly dangerous player who can give the best full-backs in world football a torrid time on any given day.
In 25 Premier League appearances in 2022/23, Saint-Maximin scored once and provided five assists.
Football Insider have also claimed that Leicester City playmaker James Maddison is Newcastle’s top summer target.
The Foxes will reportedly ask for £40m for their star player in the wake of their relegation to the Championship.
Tottenham are also in the race to sign the England midfielder and the Londoners’ new manager, Ange Postecoglou, is reportedly a huge fan.
This is according to talkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook, who has hinted that the former Celtic manager’s arrival could spark a bidding war between the two Premier League clubs.
“I think Maddison definitely will go,” Crooks told talkSPORT. “The interest from Newcastle, that started last summer, has never really gone away.
“I think Ange Postecoglou is an admirer as well so keep an eye on Tottenham maybe joining that particular race.”
As well as a new attacking midfield player, Newcastle boss Howe is reportedly keen to sign a centre-back, defensive midfielder, and versatile forward this summer.
