ALBANY — State Police have charged a Newburgh police officer with allegedly raping a child less than 13 years old in the Albany County suburb of Bethlehem in April 2022.
John Kyle B. Dizon, 23, of Cornwall, was charged Friday with multiple felonies, including first-degree rape and predatory sexual assault against a child.
State Police said they received information about the case the week earlier on June 1. Police allege the suspect had sexual contact with the child on April 2022 in the town of Bethlehem.
Dizon was a University at Albany police officer at the time of the alleged incident, State Police said. He no longer works there, police said.
The police’s release of the information Saturday did not explain if Dizon knew his alleged victim.
Dizon was arrested at the State Police barracks in Middletown, and arraigned in Westerlo Town Court Friday, a rural community south of Bethlehem. He was sent to the Albany County jail without bail.
Dizon is a current city of Newburgh Police Department officer. State Police said in its release that the department, “has been advised and has been entirely cooperative with the investigation.” His current employment status was not immediately clear Sunday morning.
Police said the case is an ongoing investigation, and asked if anyone has information on this case — or if there are other victims — to contact the State Police headquarters in Latham, Albany County at 518-583-7000 or email [email protected].
