THE City of Mount Gambier is rolling out a new kerbside recycling and food organics garden organics (FOGO) bin collection schedule and several areas within the city will be impacted by the change.
Council waste management coordinator Jeremy Martin said the schedule would change from Monday, July 3.
“From July, Hallmont Estate and Woodlands Grove will change from a Tuesday collection to a Wednesday collection and the central business district will change from a Wednesday collection to a Tuesday collection,” he said.
“Buronga Avenue, Starline Place and associated streets will shift from a Monday to a Tuesday collection.”
He said this change would would help council improve the service, plan for future growth and development and improve environmental and sustainability practices.
Mr Martine also encouraged residents to download the My Local Services phone app, which could send alerts when it was time to put the bins out.
“Once a resident downloads the app and enters their home address, it will pick up what day their bin collection is and they can look at the calendar on the screen. It also sends a notification the night before to remind them to put their bins out,” he said.
“The app will enable council to send out notifications in real time if there are any delays to bins being picked up. It can also be used to report maintenance issues such as bin repairs, tree trimming or damaged footpaths etc.”
The bins will continue to be collected on a fortnightly basis, and general waste bins will not be impacts.
“On the week beginning Monday 3 July 2023 please put your recycling bin out in addition to your general waste bin for collection,” Mr Martin said.
“On the week starting Monday 10 July 2023 please put your food organics garden organics (FOGO) bin out with your general waste bin for collection. Please ensure all bins are placed on the kerb before 6am on your collection day.”
