The Transport Accident Commission’s appointment of a new chief executive officer has left another major Geelong authority searching for a new leader.
Barwon Water managing director Tracey Slatter has been named the TAC’s new chief executive officer and will take over the role from July 3.
Ms Slatter replaces outgoing executive Joe Calafiore, who has led the TAC for eight years and announced his resignation in January.
She led Barwon Water for six years and was previously the chief executive officer at the City of Port Phillip.
Before that, Ms Slatter worked as head of claims at the TAC for four years.
WorkSafe and the TAC Minister Danny Pearson said Ms Slatter would bring a wealth of experience to the role.
“Congratulations to Tracey Slatter on her appointment – her experience and expertise will be instrumental in the TAC reaching its goals to support clients and make our roads safer for everyone,” he said.
“Joe Calafiore has fought tirelessly to improve safety on our roads and reduce the number of Victorians affected by the devastation of road trauma – I thank him for his unwavering dedication to the TAC and wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
In addition to her executive role, Ms Slatter serves on the boards of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (Victoria) and Water Services Association of Australia and is deputy chairwoman of the Barwon Regional Partnership.
Barwon Water chairwoman Jo Plummer said Ms Slatter had led the organisation through transformational change.
“Under Tracey’s leadership, Barwon Water has made huge strides, recognising its key role in driving regional prosperity and addressing the considerable challenges of climate change, population growth and more,” Ms Plummer said.
“Tracey has led the creation of Barwon Water’s Strategy2030, co-designed through extensive listening and collaborating with customers, key stakeholders and the region’s community.”
Ms Slatter will finish at Barwon Water on June 15.
A recruitment process to replace Ms Slatter will commence shortly, with an interim managing director to be appointed before her departure.
