FORD Supercar collector Adam Walton has opened up on his acquisition of the 2015 championship-winning FG X Falcon.
Walton has been revealed as the buyer of the car which Mark Winterbottom drove to Tickford Racing’s one and only title to date (it was then known as Prodrive Racing Australia).
Having undergone an extensive restoration by the Campbellfield squad, FPR 1217 was due to be shaken down by Cam Waters as part of a handover yesterday at Winton only for wet weather to intervene.
Walton told V8 Sleuth they’ll instead look to line up another track visit soon, in preparation for sporadic appearances for the Pepsi Max-liveried car.
“We’re just really going to run the car once a year on special occasions,” said the proud Ford man.
“Like we might go and do the Adelaide Motorsport Festival and just keep the car running, a few car shows and so forth.
“I just don’t want to put the car away and hide it.
“These cars should be out there being shown, not just put in someone’s shed in the corner and be forgotten about.”
Walton’s collection also includes the ‘Hogster’ ex-Triple Eight FG Falcon which now is being driven by Jamie Tilley in the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series, and a Dick Johnson Racing AU Falcon with which Paul Radisich and Steven Johnson won the 2001 Queensland 500.
“I’ve always been interested in cars since I was a kid,” said Walton, 52.
“My childhood dream was to go and race a car at Bathurst.
“I always loved the historic racing, like the Appendix J, Group N, that sort of stuff; we built a new car with Brad Tilley and we got him to race it probably four years ago now.
“We have been running the Group N ever since and I got to do my few events at Bathurst, so I have ticked all of the boxes now.”
