FOODLAND Mount Gambier has a bright future, as new owners officially opened the new-look store last week.
Owner of Karts and Krafts Ben Sethia said he set his sights on the city when he “fell in love” with Mount Gambier during a holiday.
“It’s got such a beautiful history, I just wanted to come back and engage with the community,” he said.
“So this opportunity came in to buy the store and I just thought there’s a lot of potential here, being in the shopping centre and being the South Australian brand and a lot of that local product.
“So we just thought ‘let’s give it what it’s worth’.
They have hit the ground running, doing a lot of work to overhaul the store, bring in fresh supplies, install new signs and improve the lighting, among other things.
Their first day on the job included making a sizeable donation to a local charity.
“We gave a big donation to Food Bank – $20,000 worth of groceries,” he said.
“We also gave a lot of sanitizers to local medical facilities and hospitals – we just wanted to start by giving back.
“We’ve stocked up the store over the last two weeks, and we’re just looking forward for the support from the community and engaging with them.”
The store was officially opened by Mayor Lynette Martin on Saturday.
