Pool-goers will continue to make a splash at Kempsey Shire pools as operating contracts awarded to run the facilities.
Following a call for tenders for three out of the shire’s four pools, the Kempsey and South West Rocks swimming pool operating contracts have been awarded to Lifeguarding Services Australia Pty Ltd.
Lifeguarding Services Australia has provided water safety services including professional lifeguards, rescue swimmers and rescue/public safety divers for numerous events, aquatic venues, local councils, schools and sports organisations across the country for more than 20 years.
The tenders for Gladstone swimming pool were rejected as the tendered amount exceeded the projected budget, however, Council will enter into negotiations with some of the tenderers for a one year management agreement. The operators of Crescent Head pool continue in the role.
Stephen Mitchell, Director of Corporate and Commercial at Kempsey Shire Council, welcomed the new operator of these highly visible community facilities.
“We’ve been very fortunate to have had HudoSwim manage three of our pools and contribute to the community over the past 5 years,” said Mr Mitchell.
“As we approach the end of this swimming season, it is great to secure the future of Kempsey and South West Rocks pools with experienced managers, Lifeguarding Services Australia.”
“We are also committed to establishing a one-year operating agreement for Gladstone pool, that will give Council the opportunity to explore future options for the facility, including community engagement and economic assessment. Council spends approximately $1 million a year on our pools and it is important that we approach this responsibly in the context of the Special Rate Variation Investigation project which is currently underway.”
Councillors assessed the tenders received to run Kempsey, South West Rocks and Gladstone swimming pools in a confidential session at the May Council Meeting.
Lifeguarding Services Australia Pty Ltd were awarded both Kempsey and South West Rocks swimming pools for a five year period with the option to extend for a further five years.
A report on the ongoing operation of Gladstone pool will be presented at a future Council Meeting.
