A type of green-black gemstone proponents claim can help “detoxify” the body and alleviate diabetes has been urgently recalled after it was found to possibly contain asbestos.
The rough serpentine gemstone sold at new-age stores in NSW, Victoria, and online was recalled by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Monday.
The watchdog revealed the gemstone was found to possibly contain asbestos, exposure to which can cause asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.
“Consumers should immediately stop using this product and wrap it in thick sturdy plastic or a heavy duty sturdy plastic bag where the seal cannot be broken,” the ACCC said.
“The supplier – Alliz Trading Pty Ltd – will contact consumers to provide advice about safe disposal of the stones and arrange a full refund.”
The gemstone was sold between March 2019 and December 2020 at a range of stores, including:
- Wild Moon Tribe
- Dragons & Gemstones
- Mystical Dragon
- The Oracle Shop
- Amy Maree Psychic Medium
- Soto Collective
- Mystic & Moon Crystals
- Cleanse & Co
- Posy Blossom
Asbestos was long used as installation in homes before being found to cause lifelong and fatal illness.
Asbestosis, caused by asbestos exposure, is a repository illness that can result in lung cancer.
