After receiving a frightful tongue lashing following their 117-62 away loss against the Rockingham Flames on June 3, South West Slammers men’s players had plenty to ponder.
And during this period of self-reflection, players, like everyone in the South West, experienced several inches of rain during their everyday activities.
This rainfall clearly inspired Shane Goff’s men, as at times throughout Saturday night’s 94-81 home win over the Goldfields Giants, the Slammers “made it rain” from beyond the arc.
Two lethal three-point bursts — 4/7 and 4/6 — during the opening and final quarters respectively paved the way for a welcomed victory at the Eaton Recreation Centre.
Aside from these impressive periods of outside shooting, the Slammers played a high-octane brand of basketball at both ends of the floor, with their vastly improved ball retention (10 turnovers) a positive by-product from it.
Slammers imports Buay Tuach (26 points, 12 rebounds) and Ben Stevens (16 points, 15 rebounds) both again collected quality numbers, while Xavier Cotton’s strong form continued, dropping 25 points.
