While Mr McCowan declined to comment on the reasons behind the sale, he said the region was on the cusp of entering ultra-prestige territory.
“I believe the Coffs Coast is such an undervalued area in terms of the amenity: the beaches are stunning, the hinterland is stunning – and the accessibility is extreme,” he said, noting Coffs Harbour Airport was one of the biggest regional airports in the country.
Prominent local landholders include actor Russell Crowe, Silverchair bassist Chris Joannou and singer Wendy Matthews.

Construction boss resets Manly record with $25m sale
Lang O’Rourke COO Cathal O’Rourke has sold his Manly trophy home for $25 million, eclipsing the previous $23 million suburb record by $2 million.
Mr O’Rourke – the son of the construction and engineering behemoth’s deputy chairman, Des – listed his designer Bower Street abode with a $23 million guide that was easily outstripped at the property’s private auction held on Wednesday.
Designed by architect Nanna Lesiuk from Housed Architects, the property offers 649 square metres of internal living space including a gym, steam room, a heated pool adjoining a lower entertainment level with 80-inch TV and booth seating along with heated Italian marble and oak floors.
The selling agent, Bell Property Manly’s Anthony Calacoci, said the level of online interest in the lead-up to the sale had been astonishing.
“In four weeks, we had 23,018 page views via REA, and 28,135 on Domain,” the prestige agent said. “That’s huge numbers – for a standard listing that number is usually around 4000.”
Mr Calacoci believes the property sets a new standard in residential construction in Sydney.
“The house was just so beautiful, it was well-built – the vendor was an engineer by trade and that showed,” he said. “Every hinge, every powerpoint, every little tiny thing – the attention to detail was meticulous.”
Like many properties on exclusive Bower Street, the block is a Catholic Church leasehold – which Mr Calacoci said could be a deterrent for some buyers. “If this wasn’t leasehold land, it would have sold for double the price.”
Manly’s previous record was set in January 2022 with the $23 million sale of a home overlooking Shelly Beach. The unrenovated Bower Street home was sold by Clarke & Humel’s Michael Clarke on behalf of Andrew Swan, of British investment giant Man Group.
Western Australia’s most expensive sale with $12m holiday house
Perth businessman Barry Waller and wife Christine have sold their Siesta Park seaside compound in the Margaret River region for $12 million, clocking Western Australia’s most expensive residential sale of 2023.
The property comprises three interconnected buildings with six bedrooms, five bathrooms and three kitchens across four hectares of oceanfront land, with the high watermark as the north-facing boundary.
The property was designed as a multi-generational escape and was constructed by Perth-based builders Zorzi alongside Sydney-based Decus Interiors – landing the stylish abode in interiors bible Vogue Living.
Selling agent Sam Hanson, from Hanson Property Group, said the strip is home to some of the state’s best holiday homes.
“This amazing property is located on one of the most prestigious, sought-after and tightly held stretches of coastline WA has to offer – having had the good fortune to enjoy and know the area so well, this incredible sale came as no surprise,” he said.
Located about a 2½-hour drive from Perth on WA’s south-west coast, the unidentified buyer will be joining fellow Caves Road heavy hitters mining executive Bill Beament, Melissa Karlson, (daughter of Rhonda Wyllie of Wyllie Group property and investment family) and one of Australia’s newest billionaires, Liontown Resources chairman Tim Goyder.
Perth meets The Hamptons for $14 million
The Siesta Park record could be short-lived, following the $14 million listing of a Hampton’s style property in salubrious Mosman Park.
Billed as Perth’s finest on the market, the five-bedroom home overlooking Swan River belongs to owner of Pozzi Financial Services, Mark Pozzi, and his wife Carmen. The couple bought the block a decade ago, and spent the next two years planning their dream home.
“The build took 4½ years as we had so many issues getting local trades and suppliers and most products had to be imported from the US or the UK,” Mr Pozzi said.
Features include copper ceilings, slate from the New England region in the US, along with American wainscoting panels and light fittings.
“We did everything we could to the highest standard. Even the door thickness is extreme and we even had to dig the house down deeper to have 3.4-metre ceilings upstairs and downstairs,” Mr Pozzi said.
The eight-car garage – inspired by the Bentley dealership in London – comes with a checkerboard floor which can convert into a disco space, while the home’s eight televisions can be hidden by custom mirrors imported from the UK.
The property is listed by prestige Perth agent Ray White’s Jody Fewster.
Architectural heavyweight lists family home
Design director of global architectural firm Woods Bagot, Domenic Alvaro, has put his family home on the market in Sydney’s inner west.
The Lilyfield home was a small-scale passion project for the pre-eminent architect, whose works span luxury hotels and destination bars, commercial high-rise and offices around the world.
“I designed and built the home for my wife and two beautiful children,” Mr Alvaro said. “My aim was for it to be an essay in future heritage; one that starts with a traditional facade that is sympathetic to the street character that then continues inside, resulting in an exceptional living experience.”
The three-bedroom home with concrete slab floors spans two levels and comes with a separate work-from-home space and central courtyard with heated plunge pool, along with spotted gum cladding and four-metre ceilings.
BresicWhitney’s Andrew Liddell is handling the listing.
“This is one of Lilyfield’s standout homes that masterfully combines aesthetics, functionality, spaciousness and comfort,” Mr Liddell said.
The O’Neill Street property is guiding $3.8 million for its June 24 auction.
