Tunisian football manager Nabil Maaloul has resigned from his role as esperance’s head coach following the team’s heavy 3-0 defeat to Al ahly on Friday night
Al Ahly put one foot and a half in their fourth successive CAF Champions League final after beating Esperance de Tunis 3-0 in the first leg at Rades Stadium.
Percy Tau gave Al Ahly the lead after just eight minutes, before the same player doubled the Reds’ lead in the 55th minute, scoring a Champions League semi-final brace for a second consecutive year.
Kahraba then sealed the big win with a third goal in the 75th minute, tapping in Hussein El-Shahat’s cross from close range.
The defeat extended Esperance’s winless run to four games as they currently sit fifth in the championship playoffs and are in danger of missing out on a spot in next year’s caf Champions League.
As a result, Nabil Maaloul handed in his resignation, leaving Esperance without a manager when they travel to face Al Ahly in Cairo next week.
In order to qualify for the final, Espérance now needs to win by a three-goal difference in Cairo when both teams meet on Friday, May 19.
This marked Maaloul’s third stint with Esperance, having also coached the national teams of tunisia, Kuwait, and Syria, as well as Qatari giants Al Duhail.
