A devastated mother has spoken out after her son’s vein was severed in a stabbing incident at a Queensland primary school.

Speaking on Sunrise on Thursday morning, the mother of the boy, Nicole, said she was called by the school after her son, a special needs student, had been injured.
“What I want everyone to understand is that this isn’t just happening in our high schools, it’s happening in primary schools and it’s not safe,” she told host Natalie Barr.
“I don’t want to be sending my children to school knowing that it isn’t safe out there anymore.”
The mother-of-seven said when she was called by the school, staff “weren’t sure” how extensive the injury was.
Arriving in tears, Nicole took her child straight to the local doctor to have the stab wound assessed.
Sadly, doctors discovered a concerning detail that meant her son would have to undergo emergency surgery.
“They started to clean him up and realised there was a severed vein, so they sent us straight to emergency to see a surgeon,” she said.
“He’s a trooper, he’s been really strong through the whole thing.”
Nicole blames staff shortages for the incident.
“They have so many little people and not enough supervision in the playgrounds, and unfortunately, this is what’s happening,” she said.
“It’s not just one school, it’s happening everywhere.”
The concerned mother proceeded to make an urgent plea for the Queensland Government to intervene.
“The government needs to do a lot more to supervise what they are able to do for these schools,” she said.
“These are our babies, we need to step up before it gets any worse.”
Nicole was told by the state’s Department of Education that the child responsible for the incident would be disciplined, but wouldn’t detail how.
The Queensland Department of Education has been contacted for comment.
