Shortly before police arrested a mum on a return to prison warrant, CCTV footage showed a person dumping marijuana on the neighbour’s yard. Read why she won’t be punished.
Mackay mum Renee Jane Parkinson fronted Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday and tried arguing she was mentally unfit to do so.
But Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan pointed out a mental health fitness and soundness test had ruled otherwise.
Parkinson then said she “had children” and did not have time to delay the matter any further.
She then pleaded guilty to possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, and possessing dangerous drugs.
Prosecutor Leonie Taufa’ao said police officers were detailed to a North Mackay home on December 28 with a return to prison warrant for Parkinson.
There they found a water pipe, grinder, and small packets of green leafy material.
“While speaking with (Parkinson), police observed her to be heavily affected by drugs and appearing to be suffering from a psychotic episode,” Ms Taufa’ao said.
Paramedics were called to take Parkinson to hospital before police went to the neighbour’s home and watched back CCTV footage showing a woman dumping marijuana in their yard.
Ms Taufa’ao said Parkinson later told police that the 6g of seized marijuana was not hers, and she had not used the drug for about five weeks.
Ms Hartigan said considering the mental health test showed Parkinson “was likely impaired on the day (of the offences) but not deprived” and a duration of time had passed since that day, she would release her “absolutely”.
“That’s like you’ve never been here … see you later,” Ms Hartigan told her.
