MATHISTON — Well, once again, the people of Mathiston have done it again with their Mulberry Festival on May 13, and a day after rain at that.
The weather did cooperate this year, as it was a beautiful day for all the vendors, local and others, to set up and have good day.
Of the 40-plus vendors, the one who came the farthest distance was the Lewis family from Coila in the Mississippi Delta, who sold pork skins and cracklings. Other food vendors were also set up along with vendors with woodwork, shirts and many other things.
Of course, with the elections being so near, many candidates were speaking and working the crowds, and it appeared they were all friends. Retiring Justice Court Judge Jerry Jones was there with a watchful eye and maybe some helpful advice for candidates.
This was a really good day, and we congratulate Deputy Clerk Heather Forster, the mayor and board of Mathiston for putting this event together. People are already talking about next year’s festival.
Another thing — many honest people were there, because I had an armload of shirts and caps given to me by candidates, and discovered I did not have my camera. Not to worry, though. Mrs. Forster came to the pavilion, announced I had lost my camera and a nice lady brought it to me.
