Tributes have flowed for a mother-of-three killed in a horror crash in NSW Central West as police continue to search for answers.
Emergency services were called to Speedy St in Molong, about 300km from Sydney, shortly before 4pm on Friday following reports of a crash.
Police arrived at the scene and found that a sedan and utility vehicle had collided.
The driver of the sedan – later identified as 36-year-old Kristy Armstrong – died at the scene.
Two children aged eight and 13 who were passengers in the sedan were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Husband Troy Armstrong, 35, is believed to have been behind the wheel of the ute, and was freed by NSW Fire and Rescue before being treated by paramedics.
He was taken to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
The Molong and nearby Orange communities took to social media on Sunday to pay tribute to the young mother.
The Orange District Softball Association expressed condolences to Ms Armstrong’s family and the local softball community.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we let our softball community know one of our own, Kristy, passed away yesterday,” the club wrote online.
“We send our deepest sympathies and lots of love to her family at this very difficult time.”
The Bletchington Softball Club also wrote: “We are incredibly saddened to learn of the tragic passing of a beloved teammate and friend, Kristy.
“Bletchington Softball Club would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to all those who knew and loved Kristy.
Cabonne Council mayor Kevin Beatty told the ABC the community of Molong had been left in shock following the tragedy.
“The community is grieving,” Mr Beatty said.
“This young family was well and truly entrenched in town, and quite involved.
“You walk down the street and everybody knows each other … just a very warm community which is now completely shocked.”
A local woman who knew the pair told the Daily Mail she was “shattered beyond words”.
“I have no words for the heartache on my mind right now only a massive ache in my heart,” she said.
A crime scene was established in the aftermath of the crash with specialist police brought in to examine the wreckage.
As investigations continue, NSW Police confirmed they believe the two drivers were known to each other.
The crash is currently being treated as a domestic-related incident.
No charges have been laid in relation to the crash.
