Pitso Mosimane has confirmed he rejected an offer to return to the Egyptian Premier League with Zamalek SC.
Mosimane has been in high demand since the contract situation at Al Ahli became volatile with the club reportedly keen on replacing him with a European coach in the new season.
However, the three-time CAF Champions League winner insists, there’s a clause in his contract that activates a one-year extension after winning promotion to the Pro League.
Within the contract saga, the squad and fans also refused to celebrate their title win which caused a rather bizarre end to the season in an uncomfortable scene for the decorated coach and his technical team upon securing his 19th career title of his glittering career.
Zamalek, Esperance, Raja Atheltic Club have been among the teams linked with his services but certainly not able to meet the demands of Mosimane and his entire technical team and, while the Botola Pro giants and Zamalek denied the approach, Mosimane has confirmed he rejected the advances of the fierce Cairo rivals of his former club, Al Ahly.
“This timing is not appropriate to accept the offer,” Mosimane said in brief as per BeIN Sports Arabic before addressing his resignation from the Club of the Century.
“If the circumstances were different, I would have wanted to continue with Al Ahly, but the conditions of the Egyptian League necessitated not working there.”
Mosimane is believed to have been bothered by the congested fixture schedule of the Egyptian club with the league being one season behind schedule overlapping with future commitments in the FIFA Club World Cup and CAF Champions League.
