Mornington man charged with string of offences across southern Tasmania
A 29-year-old man from Mornington has today been charged with several offences, allegedly committed across Southern Tasmania since 11 June.
Yesterday detectives searched a residence in Warrane and located the man at the rear of the property, inside a reportedly stolen motor vehicle. Approximately $20,000 of allegedly stolen items were located, which police believe came from the burglary of a house in South Hobart earlier in the day.
The man was interviewed by detectives and has since been charged with Aggravated burglary x2, Burglary x4, Attempted burglary x3, Stealing x4, Motor vehicle stealing x4, Drive whilst disqualified x4, Breach of bail x1, Computer related fraud x2.
He has been detained to appear in court this afternoon.
Police will allege the man’s offending occurred throughout various suburbs, including Derwent Park, Lutana, Mornington, Warrane, Bellerive, Sandy Bay, Mount Nelson and South Hobart.
The alleged offending involves the burglary of vehicles, businesses, and houses, as well as the stealing of cars.
Detective Sergeant Josh Wood said some residences and vehicles were left unlocked.
“Police would like to take the opportunity to remind members of the public to keep valuables out of sight and keep vehicles and residences locked when not in use,” he said.
“Criminals are often opportunistic, and we want to ensure Tasmanians can avoid becoming easy targets by taking small steps to secure their properties.”
“Locking doors and windows, installing sensor lights and security cameras can go a long way to preventing crime.”
