A Monaghan property that has been advertised on Daft has gone viral after threatening messages were spray painted on boards covering its windows.
The property, located on the main road near the Cavan-Monaghan border, looks like a regular three-bed bungalow — but has been boarded up.
As well as this, the boards on the windows have several threatening messages, including warning any potential buyer that they will be burned out of the home.
One board says ‘no sale,’ while the remaining three on the front of the home reads ‘buyer will be burt [sic] out.’
The home went viral on the Ireland subreddit, where aside from the obvious threat, there was much amusement over the fact that whomever spray painted the boards with the threat misspelled the word ‘burnt.’
‘Anyone know who Burt Out is?’ one user joked, while another added ‘If they want to ‘burt’ it, why don’t they just do it now and not wait until someone moves in to “burt” it down.’
Others explained why homes like these — where threatening messages are left — aren’t removed when the home is advertised, saying ‘There is a legal issue with selling a house that has issues like this. It’s the same with neighbour disputes, or family disputes about a will you’re supposed to inform the new owner before the sale completes.’
Another added that they knew someone who bought a home with similar messages, but none of the threats came to fruition — saying it was a ‘massive 200sqm house that was originally built for 500k sold to them for 160k. They never had any trouble despite the mad ramblings on the boarded up windows.’
