Kilmore ladies got their first league win of the season on a visit to Mount Falcon on Friday evening.
Newly returned to the Mayo Women’s Football League this year, the Erris side saw off Conn Rangers 6-3.
Kathrina Barrett had a hat-trick, her first goal coming as early as the third minute. Michelle Lynch, Kayleigh Winters and Roisin Greene also got on the scoresheet as Kilmore notched up three goals in each half.
Conn also had a hat-trick, from the boot of Leagh McHugh, who has been in fine scoring form.
The other newbies, Crossmolina, showed they too are settling in well on their first ever foray into the league. For the second week on the trot their efforts earned them a draw, against visitors Killala on this outing.
The person operating the Comet app had a quiet evening, the score there 0-0!
Elsewhere, Kiltimagh Knock United welcomed Straide & Foxford to CMS Park where they played out a cracking game. S&F had the greater number of chances but KK were more clinical in front of goal, running out 3-1 winners.
Abby Sweeney got her first goal for the club on 25 minutes as KK led 1-0 at the break. Substitute Juliet Duffy extended it to 2-0 early in the second half, followed soon after by a wonderful strike from Shauna Golden to make it 3-0.
S&F made KK work hard for their win and got a richly deserved goal of their own on the hour mark through Orla McHale.
Swinford closed the gap at the top of the table to one point with a 3-1 win over Ballinrobe, while Castlebar Town remain on top on 22 points after playing out a 2-2 draw against Manulla.
In south Mayo, Swinford opened the scoring against Ballinrobe through Beth Roache. The same player and Kaitlyn Jordan were to add two more before the break, with an Elyse Brouwer goal sandwiched in between.
The scoreline read 3-1 at the break and so it remained, with a scoreless second half.
Jess Nolan had Manulla’s two goals on the board in the sixth and 37th minutes in their clash with Castlebar Town.
Town showed their battling intent early in the second half with a Chloe Morley goal on 46 minutes. And it was Morley again who struck on 68 minutes to give her side a share of the spoils.
