Another weather warning has been issued by the Met Office. For the third time this week, a yellow warning has been issued due to heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast across Sussex and much of eastern England.
The warning came into force at 11.30am on Thursday (May 11) and will remain in place until 7pm the same evening. Much of inland Sussex is encompassed by the weather warning which affects the southeast, Midlands, northeast and central parts of the UK.
The Met Office has said that driving conditions could be affected by the weather. Heavy rain could lead to standing water, spray and hail which may lead to increased journey times whilst trains and buses may also be delayed.

Drivers are urged to take care on the roads and adjust to the damp conditions. The rain could also lead to the flooding of homes and businesses which could cause damage – those in low-lying areas should implement a flood plan if they have one.
Lightning strikes could also cause problems for people and may lead to some damage to trees or buildings if struck. In some areas, the weather could lead to a loss of power or loss of other services.
Further information on the Met Office website reads: “Heavy showers will develop quite widely later this morning and afternoon, hail and lightning accompanying showers in some places. Some of these showers will be slow-moving and 10 to 20 mm of rain is likely to fall in less than an hour in some places whilst a few spots could see as much as 20 to 50 mm of rain in 2 or 3 hours.”
Weather map shows when conditions are at their worst
A Met Office weather map shows when the rainy and thundery conditions are likely to be at their worst. Though the warning remains in place until 7pm, it appears the worst of the conditions may have passed.
At 2.45pm, weather maps showed large sections of Sussex could be subjected to heavy rainfall, between 16mm and 32mm per hour in some areas including Crawley, Cuckfield, Horsham, Uckfield and other parts of central Sussex.
For much of the rest of the day, conditions should be less inclement although some heavy rain may persist in areas such as Chichester, Billingshurst, Slindon, Worthing and Uckfield. Some rain is likely to persist throughout the rest of the day and into the night but it is likely to be much lighter than the heavy showers seen during daytime.
