Cas Garvey is returning to Townsville after successful stints across Mackay, Bowen, the Whitsundays, and Tasmania.
Cas, who is currently head of content of The Mercury in Hobart, will replace Craig Herbert, who was appointed recently as editor of The Mercury.
Her promotion marks a return to her hometown where Cas was digital and deputy editor of The Bulletin before moving to Hobart in 2020.
During her past three years in Hobart, Cas has also had oversight of editorial growth into northern Tasmania through the digital-only titles the Launceston News and North West Coast News.
Previously, Cas was also deputy editor of The Daily Mercury in Mackay, chief-of-staff of the Warwick Daily News and editor of north Queensland titles, The Whitsunday Times, Whitsunday Guardian and Bowen Independent, and deputy head of digital for News’ regional and community network.
“I was in Townsville during some of the region’s best and worst times: The 2019 flooding disaster and then a year later, the opening of Queensland Country Bank stadium and home of the Cowboys: a project championed and fought hard for by The Bulletin,” Cas said.
“I look forward to working with the team again at the Townsville Bulletin – the Voice of the North and passionately advocating for its readers.”
