MCVEYTOWN — Last year, McVeytown’s Elliott Yetter threw a 5-0 shutout against Reedsville in the middle of the 2022 Mifflin County Babe Ruth pennant race. It was a big game in the fight for the top spot.
Guess what? Yetter did it again. This time to Strodes Mills. Strodes came into the game on Monday night with a 6-1 record and a three-game winning streak. Reedsville, which beat Lewistown on Monday, is still in first place, but has a little more breathing room.
McVeytown edged Strodes Mills, 6-5, thanks to the pitching of Yetter. Yetter went into the sixth inning. He struck out 11, walked one and gave up just four hits. He allowed four runs and when he left the game, Strodes was ahead, 4-3.
Carson Cherry came in relief and picked up the win. He finished the sixth and gave up one run and one hit in the seventh.
McVeytown trailed, 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Logan Rickert walked, Erayven Shaeffer and Brice Hartsock singled and when Yetter reached on an error, two runs scored to win the game.
McVeytown finished with six hits. Gathin Kauffman, a rookie, had two hits. Nazae Traxler had a triple and scored two runs.
Strodes Mills finished with six hits, too. Chase Moore and Joel Beamer each had two. Beamer started the Strodes’ comeback in the fifth with a lead-off triple.
Reedsville 13,
Lewistown 1
LEWISTOWN — Reedsville remained undefeated (5-0) with a 13-1 win over Lewistown.
Reedsville pounded out 15 hits in the game, which was stopped after five innings due to the 10- run rule.
The big hitters for Reedsville were Austin McKnight, Wyatt Parkes and Gavin Powell. McKnight had a double and a two-run homer. Powell had three singles. McKnight’s homer came in the first inning when Reedsville jumped out to a 5-0 lead. One of Parkes’ three hits was a double. Madden Weaver helped the Reedsville offense with a triple.
Reedsville used three pitchers with Powell getting the start and the win. Weaver and Nate Parkes finished the game for league leaders.
Lewistown only had two hits, a double from Chase Hartung and a single from Max Yoder.
Milroy 19, Belleville 6
BELLEVILLE– Milroy exploded for 15 hits and 19 runs as it beat Belleville, 19-6, in five innings.
Brayden Stitt was the winning pitcher as he pitched into the fourth and Blaze Shreffler then finished the game for Milroy.
Kooper Walters and Jarren Kenny each had three hits for Milroy. Karl Shirey, Thad Gerwick and Michael Wilson each had two. Shirey and Wilson had doubles and both of Gerwick’s hits went for two bases.
Belleville had seven hits with Wyatt Kauffman and Brandon Kauffman each getting two. Wyatt Kauffman had a triple in the first inning.
