Football Queensland is pleased to announce fixture details for the fourth annual exhibition match between Brisbane Roar FC and the McDonald’s FQPL Wide Bay Men All-Stars team.
This exciting display of the state’s best footballers is set to kick off at 1pm Sunday, 23 July at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct.
“Football Queensland is excited to once again welcome Brisbane Roar FC to the Wide Bay region, bringing high quality match minutes to our local fans and players’ doorstep,” FQ Acting General Manager – Central Coast Region, Jordie Gerbes said.
“In recent years this match has seen more than 3,000 football fans across the region show up to support their players going head to head against Queensland’s only A-League team, and this year’s match is shaping up to be an unmissable game.”
Community and FQ Academy activations, plus Walking Football games will take place in the lead up to and on the day of the exhibition match, providing attendees the opportunity to join in this celebration of Wide Bay football.
Fraser Coast Council Mayor George Seymour said the visits by the Roar were very important for the Fraser Coast region and local football players and supporters.
“Hosting the Roar has multiple benefits for the region. It allows our home-grown players to watch elite athletes in action and train with some of the best football players in the country,” Cr Seymour said.
“The games and training clinics also attract visitors, which has an economic benefit for the region.
“The visit is also an opportunity for sporting clubs to attract members and increase community participation in sports.
“Council will continue to invite state, national and international teams to the Fraser Coast as part of our focus on growing our local economy and ensuring we have a healthy and active community.”
With the team selection process set to begin early June, more details will be released in the coming weeks.
Entry to the exhibition match is free.
