Marumo Gallants will play one of their most crucial games ever on Wednesday as they look to reach a historic Caf Confederation Cup final
Perhaps a couple of pundits across the African continent might have written off Marumo Gallants as far as the Caf Confederation Cup is concerned. However, there is overwhelming evidence that the Limpopo outfit’s dream still has a heartbeat.
As you may know, Gallants are in the semi-finals of Africa’s second-tier club competition, and they need to overturn a 2-0 deficit for Raymond Mdaka’s side to reach the final. Gallants host Tanzanian side Young Africans at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, where they will bank on the likes of Ranga Chivaviro and Katlego Otladisa to help them turn around the tie in their favour.
WHAT’S AT STAKE? While Gallants will fight to protect their Premier Soccer League status this weekend, the bigger picture for Marumo as far as Caf is concerned is that if they can go all the way to the final and somehow win it, the relatively small side will book a place in next season’s Caf Champions League.
And the cherry on top is that Mdaka’s side would be the first South African side — after two attempts from SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates — to win this competition. But first, Gallants need to jump this hurdle, and GOAL looks at a couple of comebacks in this competition.
