“I have responded to the Pope’s appeal to artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a screenplay for a film about Jesus,” Scorsese announced on May 27 during a Rome conference, according to Variety. “And I’m about to start making it,” the director added, suggesting this would be his next movie.
As per the report, Scorsese’s Italian tour involves a series of screenings of his movies. He was present at Rome’s Casa del Cinema cinematheque. The report also says that the filmmaker will hold a “a master class on Tuesday for students of Rome’s Centro Sperimentale film school; and an onstage conversation on Friday in Bologna where he will be a guest of the Cineteca di Bologna, the film archives that run the Il Cinema Ritrovato festival dedicated to heritage film.”
Meanwhile, Killers of the Flower Moon is based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone). It is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal. Also starring Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons, the movie is directed by Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese from a screenplay by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese, based on David Grann’s best-selling book. The film will premiere exclusively in theatres beginning Friday, October 6 before streaming globally on Apple TV+.
