- Pet owner relieved after rabbits were rescued
- His house became engulfed in flames
- His ‘babies’ survived the huge fire
A man whose home was engulfed by a huge fire has fought back tears of relief after his precious pet rabbits survived the blaze.
Bradley Walker’s home in Shalvey in Sydney’s west burst into flames on Friday night while his rabbits were still inside.
The devastated pet owner pushed past emergency service workers to try and enter the home and rescue his precious pets.
While Mr Walker worked to free the rabbits that were outside, firefighters rushed inside to rescue those still stranded in the home.
‘I told them ‘I don’t care I just want my babies’, this is all I care about are my babies,’ an emotional Mr Walker told 9 News.
However, some rabbits managed to flee the property and escaped onto the road before neighbours rushed in to pick them up and carried them to safety.
Neighbours took the other rabbits out their cages and placed them in boxes well away from the fire.
‘They’re my babies, I love them, they bring me peace. We didn’t lose a single one,’ Mr Walker said.
‘It was a hard night, I still haven’t slept.’
It’s believed the fire was sparked by some rubbish being burned in Mr Walker’s back garden at the time.
While quick thiinking firefighters managed to save the rabbits and most of the house, the lounge room was extensively damaged while the back shed was destroyed.
Mr Walker is just thankful that his beloved rabbits survived.
