The Mandurah Magic’s men’s team were hunting their second win of the season in a weekend double header against the Cockburn Cougars and Goldfields Giants.
The undefeated Cougars were still without stars Seva Chan, Luke Phillips and Nathan Pond for the round 11 Friday night clash.
Mandurah led 11-8 before the Cougars fought back to score 31 points to 20 throughout the rest of the quarter, with captain Gavin Field scoring 12 of those through four three-pointers.
It was quite the spectacle with the two teams producing a combined 70-point opening quarter and remained tight throughout the second, with Cockburn leading 62-57 at half-time.
Mandurah fought until the end but it was Cockburn that pulled away to lead as much as 17 points in the third quarter, before securing the 117-97 victory.
The Magic were out to redeem themselves the following night, producing what has been described as their most impressive game to date.
The Magic arrived at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre ready to battle it out against the Giants in the final game for round 11.
Goldfields led the way with 33 points to 25 in the opening quarter, before going into half-time leading 59-58.
Mandurah came out fast in the second half, scoring 10 straight points in the third quarter to open up a nine-point lead.
That advantage grew to 15 points for the Magic in the fourth quarter and the home team went on to win 120-106 to improve to 2-13 for the season, while the Giants slip to 5-10.
CJ Bobbitt was playing his ninth game of the season since joining the Magic and after his night ended early on Friday against the Cougars, he produced his best performance on Sunday in the win against the Giants.
He finished with 35 points, 12 rebounds and four assists on 11/20 shooting from the floor, 5/8 from three-point range and 8/9 from the foul line.
Dequan Abrom scored 24 points, 13 assists, eight rebounds and two steals with Isaac Abergut contributing 20 points and eight boards.
Michael Dupree top-scored for the Giants with 31 points, four assists and three rebounds with Hamish Cummings adding 24 points with 7/13 shooting from beyond the arc.
Lafonzo Smith also had 20 points, 12 rebounds and three assists and Mayo Malek eight points, seven boards and two blocks.
Mandurah Magic will take on the Warwick Senators at 7pm on June 17 at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
