The Mandurah Magic men have broken their 12 game losing streak, beating the East Perth Eagles by 24-points at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre on Monday.
The Magic went into the round 10 clash having just lost their 12th straight game of the 2023 NBL1 West season on Friday against the Rockingham Flames.
But on Monday, Mandurah proved they have what it takes to win.
The Eagles led by two-points at quarter time before the Magic took control, winning their first game since August last year.
Dequan Abrom was instrumental in the win delivering 29 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals while Ray Turner contributed with 24 points and 17 rebounds.
Coach Mark Utley said it wasn’t just a win for his team.
“It feels really good, mostly for the club, the supporters and volunteers that come out every week and allow us to play,” Utley said.
“We’ve been close for the last three out of four games and then to come away with such a convincing win just shows that our record doesn’t truely say where we are on our abilities.”
Utley said they have some new-found confidence heading into another double-header weekend.
“There’s a bit of pep in the step of our players,” he said.
This weekend the Magic men and women take on the Cockburn Cougars on Friday night, before returning to their home court for a clash with the Goldfields Giants on Sunday.
