A man was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after falling from height in Sparkhill today (June 12). Police were called to Stratford Road, outside Shell petrol station, following welfare concerns for a man who had scaled scaffolding.
The man later fell from the scaffolding and sustained serious injuries. Paramedics treated him at the scene, before transporting him to a trauma unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Stratford road, between Formans Road and Thornhill Road, was closed for several hours during the incident. It reopened at around 4pm.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were called following concerns for the welfare of a man on top of scaffolding on Stratford Road at around 12.50pm.
“He has since fallen and been taken to hospital for his injuries to be assessed.”
A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: “A middle aged man has been taken to a major trauma centre after an incident in Sparkhill Road, Birmingham. We were called to reports of an incident at the scene at just before 1pm today.
“A man was treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in a serious condition. An ambulance, three paramedic officers, the West Midlands Care Team, the MERIT Trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic were sent to the scene.”
