A man who was allegedly stabbed in the Geelong CBD remains in critical condition and “may not survive” after suffering a stroke and massive brain bleed in hospital.
Billy Braico, from Bayswater, appeared in Geelong Magistrates Court on Thursday to make a bail application after he was charged over the incident.
Mr Braico and another man, Codi Allan, were arrested in connection to the alleged stabbing of the 26-year-old man and a 44-year-old man along Brougham Street on Monday night.
Mr Braico, 19, has been charged with three counts of intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury, affray and unlawful assault.
Police informant Detective Senior Constable Mitchell Hardisty said Mr Braico, Mr Allan and another man were involved in the incident.
Constable Hardisty said police believed one of the alleged co-accused was assaulted by the 26-year-old after becoming involved in a verbal altercation.
Police said three men – including Mr Braico – then armed themselves with knives and chased the other men street.
“Mr Braico has assaulted (the 26-year-old) twice forcing the victim to the ground and while he was on the ground he assaulted him by stabbing him,” Mr Hardisty said.
While that man was on the ground the other two co-offenders allegedly further assaulted him.
Mr Hardisty then allegedly stabbed the 44-year-old.
The court heard the 44-year-old was taken to Geelong hospital and was later discharged, while the other man was taken to the Alfred Hospital where he remained in a critical condition with neck and body injuries.
He is currently in a coma and suffered a severe stroke and massive brain bleed, the court heard.
“I’ve been told by his family he may not survive,” Mr Hardisty said.
The bail application was partly heard and Mr Braico and Mr Allan will both appear in court next week on May 18.
A third alleged offender is currently in custody and at time of publication no charges had been laid.
