A man has been charged with historic sexual assault offences allegedly committed against a child, with police extraditing him to NSW to face the charges.
Police began investigating the alleged sexual violence in 2009, which is believed to have occurred over several years in Sydney’s western suburbs.
It is alleged the man, 52, sexually assaulted a girl, 10, in the Sydney suburb of Merrylands between 1991 and 1994.
On Monday he was arrested in Yarrabilba, Queensland by virtue of an outstanding warrant of aggravated sexual assault.
NSW detectives successfully applied for the man’s extradition to the southern state and escorted him to Sydney Airport late on Wednesday afternoon.
He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a victim aged under 16 and the aggravated act of indecency for a victim under 16.
The man was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.
