Police have released dramatic footage of a marine rescue in Queensland, where a man was found clinging to the side of a sunken boat after it overturned off the coast of a small town.
At least 79 people have drowned after a fishing vessel carrying migrants capsized off the southern coast of Greece.
A search for survivors is underway as 104 people have been rescued so far, including four who were taken to hospital with hypothermia.
Hervey Bay Water Police were called to Tin Can Bay, a small town near Gympie in the Wide Bay Burnett region, to reports a “small tender vessel” had become submerged in a river.
Dramatic video of the rescue shared by police on Saturday, showed the man clinging to the tip of a boat which was mostly underwater.
Police, with the help of an officer from Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol, can be seen in the video reaching for the man’s hand and pulling him to safety on board the police boat.
“Officers administered first aid and transported him to the Snapper Creek Boat Ramp,” police said in a statement.
The man was treated for hypothermia and taken to Gympie Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities also managed to pull the man’s small vessel out of the water.
Police said the incident is still being investigated.
