It’s going to be a busy weekend on public transport coming up! A perfect storm of a good weather forecast and huge road closures due to the RideLondon event this weekend mean services much busier than usual this weekend. So, with hundreds of thousands of people expected to be using the London Underground, London buses and other transport services, you need to plan and check your journey before travelling.
As well as Transport for London (TfL)’s website and ‘TfL Go’ app, we’ve got you covered here at MyLondon. As always, we’ve got all the information from our sources across London’s transport organisations and our team of reporters across the city to keep you moving.
Below we’ve got all the key changes and closures which you need to avoid this Saturday (May 27), Sunday (May 28) and Bank Holiday Monday (May 29) on London Underground and DLR, National Rail (including Elizabeth line and London Overground), London buses and trams, and other modes in Greater London.

London Underground and DLR
Piccadilly – buses replace trains all day Saturday and Sunday between Heathrow Terminals 2,3 and Acton Town. On Friday night (until Saturday morning 4.30am), buses replace Night Tube between Heathrow Terminals 2.,3 and Hammersmith. Replacement buses don’t stop at Terminals 4 or 5, use Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express from Terminals 2,3 for free.
Waterloo & City does not run on weekends
National Rail (including Elizabeth line and London Overground)
ALL SERVICES – Trains across East London and Essex expected to be busier due to RideLondon extensive road closures all weekend.
c2c rail – On Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday buses will replace trains Upminster-Rainham-Purfleet-Grays. For Dagenham Dock, use TfL buses from Rainham or Barking.
Great Northern – All weekend buses replace trains Royston-Cambridge with fewer trains King’s Cross/St Pancras International-Royston. There are also changes to last trains Saturday and first trains Sunday between King’s Cross and Welwyn GC/Stevenage via Hertford North, with some trains unable to stop at Hatfield/Welham Green – check before travelling.
EMR – Due to engineering works outside London on Sunday, fewer EMR services will run to/from St Pancras.
LNR – Due to engineering works, you cannot board some trains at Bushey between 10pm Saturday and noon Sunday – use Harrow & Wealdstone or Watford Junction instead.
London Overground – Saturday and Sunday no service Willesden Junction-Clapham Junction. On Sunday, no service Kilburn High Road-Euston before noon and after 8.30pm, plus buses replace trains between Hackney Downs and Chingford from 10.45pm. Sunday and Monday, no service Barking-Barking Riverside.
Southeastern – All weekend there are major engineering works taking place in Kent and Medway – check before travelling. trains are diverted between London Bridge and Tonbridge or Ashford Int’l due to engineering works. On Sunday buses replace trains Lewisham-Orpington/Dartford via Sidcup – some services are diverted to Cannon Street or Victoria as a result. Also on Sunday, Charing Cross and Waterloo East are closed, trains will divert to Cannon Street or terminate earlier instead.
Southern – Saturday and Sunday buses replace trains Streatham Hill-Crystal Palace-Beckenham Junction/West Croydon and Purley-East Grinstead (fast)/Woldingham-East Grinstead/Uckfield (all stations).
SWR – Buses replace trains Hounslow-Virginia Water/Windsor & Eton Riverside all day Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
Thameslink – All weekend, buses replace trains Royston-Cambridge with fewer trains King’s Cross/St Pancras International-Royston. On Sunday Kentish Town-Rainham trains will run Plumstead-Gravesend only, and Bedford/Royston/Cambridge-Three Bridges/Horsham/Brighton trains won’t stop at London Bridge.

London buses and trams
Clapham Common – Saturday 5K run may lead to disruption and crowding 10am-2pm
East London and Essex – Major disruption to multiple routes on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday due to RideLondon 2023 event. Check before travelling. Bus diversions are shown on TfL’s website – affected areas include Central London, Shadwell, Leamouth, Canning Town, West Ham, Stratford, Old Ford, Snaresbrook, South Woodford, Woodford, Grange Hill, Chigwell Row, Woodford Wells and Epping.
Fulham Road – Saturday delays expected due to Live at the Palace event 11am-10pm
Richmond Park – On Saturday, delays expected due to London2Brighton Challenge
Twickenham and Wembley Stadium – Roads may be busier with crowding and delays expected due to events all weekend
Westminster – On Saturday, buses may be delayed/diverted due to demonstrations 11am-5pm
Other transport
Woolwich Ferry – Not running at weekends.
