¯ The Brownsville Church of Christ will have a week of gospel meetings at 7:30 p.m. today through Friday with Don Wright.
¯ The Literary Ladies Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. today at the Marietta Branch Library. This book club reads cozy, wholesome and inspirational books. ¯ The Institute for Learning in Retirement will hold its annual meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Great Room of Andrews Hall on the Marietta College campus. ¯ Beverly American Legion Post 389 public steak fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Post Home 114 Fifth Street, Beverly. $15 includes steak, baked potato, salad and a roll.
¯ African Drum Class will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta Social Hall; 232 3rd Street, Marietta. ¯ The Washington County Career Center – Adult Technical Training is offering babysitting safety training to the community from 1-5 p.m. Saturday. The training is recommended for those 11 and older that provide babysitting and childcare services. The training gives the participants everything they need to know for safe and successful babysitting. It covers everything from getting started with their new business to basic caregiving, first aid, responding to ill or injured children to proper supervision. Participants receive the ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute) card after successful class completion. Cost is $45 per person and is 4-hours in length. ¯ Disabled American Veterans will hold a Memorial Day picnic at 1 p.m. May 29. The event will include grilled foods, games and live music with Moon King. ¯ The Washington County Career Center Adult Technical Training is offering CPR training from 5:30-9:30 p.m. May 30. The certification is through the American Heart Association. Class is limited to 10 people. Cost is $60 and includes the AHA card. ¯ Little Muskingum Grange will hold its third annual Catfish Tournament from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. June 2 (rain date June 16th). Registration will begin at 7 p.m. at Bob’s Place, 110 Front St., New Matamoras. Weigh-in will begin at 2 a.m. the next morning. Fishing is from shore and river from Hannibal Dam to Willow Island Dam. This tournament is for single participants with a valid fishing permit. No children will be permitted without an adult. Cost is $25. Heaviest fish wins and in case of a tie, longest fish is the tie -breaker. Monetary prizes will be awarded. All participants must sign-in and abide by the rules.
¯ St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, corner of Fifth and Scammel across from Mound Cemetery in June, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 2 and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. June 3. Proceeds benefit the church. Among items for sale are Christian items, books, pictures, Sunday school supplies and miscellaneous items including toys, kitchen items, household items and timeless treasures. No clothes or large appliances.
¯ Friends of Forgotten Felines, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, will be holding its annual yard sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at 106 Deer Haven St., Marietta. Also proceeds go towards our Trap, Neuter and Release program and caring for the cats at the fairgrounds.
¯ Salem Township VFD will hold an ice cream social at 4 p.m. June 3 at Salem-Liberty Elementary School. Baked steak or chicken dinners available along with a country store, Bingo and bouncy houses.
¯ VFW #5108 will hold a chicken dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. June 3 at 319 Pike St., Marietta. Meal includes six chicken wings or four chicken strips, fries and coleslaw, $6 per person,
¯ Washington County Family & Children First’s HELP ME GROW Early Intervention and Home Visiting programs will hold a Community Baby Bash for expectant parents and those with infants and toddlers from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. June 3 at the K of C Hall, 312 Franklin Street, Marietta.
¯ The Stanleyville Schools Reunion will be held noon June 3 in the Fearing Township Community Building, 1995 Stanleyville Road. Bring a covered dish for the potluck meal and an item for a raffle. Meat, drinks, plates and silverware will be furnished. A 50/50 drawing will be available.
¯ The Washington County Republican Party will host a Lincoln Day Dinner at 5:30 p.m. June 8. Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted will be the guest speaker. The event will be held at the Marietta Shrine Club and will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased from any WCRP member or by calling (740) 376-9702. Deadline to purchase tickets is June 1.
¯ Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats from 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 10 at Washington County Health Department, 342 Muskingum Drive, Marietta. Cost is $10 per animal. Dogs must be on a leash. Cats must be in carriers. All animals must be 12 weeks old.
¯ The Fearing Fire Deparment will hold its annual ice cream social at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 10 at 1975 Stanleyville Road Whipple. A baked steak dinner will be served with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and choice of dessert tea and coffee included. Admission for adults is $10 and children are $6. The event will also include food outside under the tent such as hamburgers, hot dogs and more, kids’ Games, bingo, dilly dunker, karaoke, king/queen drawing, country store, bounce house and ice cream.
¯ Beverly and Fort Frye High School Alumni Banquet will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 10 at Fort Frye High School. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria and meal will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school gym. ¯ There will be an election for two Reno Water Board Trustees from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on June 20 at the Reno Water and Sewer District Office, 170 Mount Tom Road. This will be a 3-year Trustee term. Applicants must be a Reno Water customer in good standing with the water meter in their name and live in the Reno area. Only one vote per household. Anyone wanting to run for this position can pick up an application at the office 170 Mount Tom Road Monday through Friday between 11a.m. and 4 p.m. Deadline for applications will be June 9.

¯ A faith-based cancer support group will be offered at noon on the second Monday of the month at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta.
¯ The 1955 graduating class of Marietta High School will meet 11:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of the month at the Harmar Tavern until further notice for the monthly luncheon gathering. All classmates and friends are welcome.
¯ Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will offer a free takeout meal from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the first Friday of the month. All are welcome.
¯ Gilman United Methodist Church offers worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Come early to join the adult Sunday school class at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and good fellowship at “Coffee Time” held at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday, at 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta. ¯ The Alzheimer’s Association offers professionally led groups for caregivers, individuals living with Alzheimer’s and others dealing with the disease of dementia. All support groups are facilitated by trained individuals. ¯ The O’Neill Center will hold chair volleyball at 9 a.m. Wednesdays, except the second Wednesday of the month.

¯ TOPS 399, Marietta, meets 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Church of the Nazarene to help members lose weight by group support to a goal set by each member’s physician. TOPS Club Inc. is a nonprofit, weight-loss support and wellness education organization in the United States and Canada.
