GMHBA will work with Deakin University are collaborating to create job opportunities for graduates, by offering new GMHBA placements and internships for people studying nursing, optometry, marketing and human resources.
GMHBA CEO David Greig said the alliance, which was made official on Tuesday morning, is an exciting opportunity.
“This creates world-class, real life employment experiences at GMHBA through our graduate programs and student placement,” he said.
“The partnership with Deakin is a great opportunity for our people to learn and grow on the job but also as a way for us to invest more in terms of community leadership.”
The new collaboration builds on the Regional Skills Strategy established by The Gordon’s ‘Skilling the Bay’, Deakin and the Committee for Geelong to address skills, training, and employment challenges exacerbated by the COVID pandemic.
Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin said with Australia’s current health workforce crisis, the collaboration would begin to address some critical skills shortages.
“Innovative industry partnerships such as these are part of Deakin’s strategy to be Australia’s most progressive university and maximise the social, cultural and economic impact Deakin delivers for the communities we serve,” Professor Martin said.
