Liverpool’s vibrant music scene has been beating with the joyful sound of over 2,200 gigs since the start of the year.
The Liverpool music scene stands apart from cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, and Leeds in terms of the popularity of daytime gigs. While other urban centres thrive on Saturday night performances, we embrace a distinct identity by favouring daytime music events.
From energetic rock shows to soulful acoustic performances, these stages have been alive with the spirit of live music, fostering local talent and providing unforgettable experiences for music enthusiasts.
We’re known for our role in nurturing exceptional music acts and hosting a multitude of grassroots venues, our city’s vibrant music scene exudes a captivating and unparalleled atmosphere, setting us apart from everywhere across the UK.
GigPig has signed up hundreds of artists and venues in Liverpool. Venues include PINS, Red Door, Jimmy’s and Nord. The majority of artists performing in the city hail from a 20-mile radius, which is helping to nurture and support talent from the region.
The data is being released following the hugely successful Eurovision staging in Liverpool and ahead of the UK’s festival and beer garden season getting underway. Summer is renowned to be one of the busiest times of the year for live music, boosting the hospitality sector and attracting audiences to grassroots venues.
Michael Forster, CEO of GigPig, said:
“Liverpool really is a class act for artists and music lovers. It is a city steeped in live music history and one that continues to tell its own story. We can clearly see from our booking data that Liverpool stands apart from other UK cities, giving countless opportunities for a variety of artists to gig regularly for engaged audiences.
“Liverpool has the capacity to stage incredible world-leading music events but is also very accomplished at hosting intimate gigs, which gives it an exciting vibe and edge. Long may this continue!”
Me + Deboe, a Liverpool-based rock, alternative and folk duo, started giggling professionally in their 20s. They signed up to GigPig last year and have since performed at a variety of new venues across the North West.
Musician Sarah Deboe said:
“We absolutely love everything about gigging in Liverpool and the North West, there’s just nothing quite like stepping out in front of a live audience! The city has an amazing music history and there are fewer music venues now, so GigPig is playing a significant role in helping local musicians perform regularly.
“While it is our passion, we highly value having a structure to gigging and that’s what GigPig has provided – supporting us to earn a living while doing what we enjoy. It’s such a weight lifted knowing we’ll be paid on time and that GigPig will take care of the behind the scenes business on our behalf. The simplicity of accepting gigs that have been found for us, knowing it’s only a click away, really has helped us as professional musicians in our everyday work life. It’s the best way we’ve ever booked gigs and we couldn’t be happier!”
DJ Ben Anderson, also based here in Liverpool, gigs at lots of venues around the city and has played at Nord via the GigPig platform.
Ben said:
“Liverpool is an amazing place to be able to gig and I feel so lucky to be able to make a profession out of doing what I love. Using GigPig means I can pick and choose which gigs I want, or at least give my availability towards it, and I’m looking forward to being able to play at different venues in future which otherwise I wouldn’t get to play.”
