A multi-storey building has been evacuated in Sydney’s inner-city, after it caught alight this afternoon and began collapsing.
Ten fire trucks have been sent to battle the blaze, which began spreading to balconies on nearby apartments, as bricks and large chunks of the tower’s walls tumbled to the street.
A parked car was also torched.

Footage from the scene has just shown walls collapse on both sides of the building.
Many floors of the structure have also fallen through.
Bricks are strewn across Chalmers Street below.

Here’s what we know so far
The fire broke out on Randle Street shortly after 4pm this afternoon.
Emergency services arrived soon after, with nearby buildings including an apartment block evacuated.
Police are trying to confirm if the burning building was vacant.

Parts of the building located near Central Station have collapsed and as firefighters try to prevent the fire spreading.

Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said the fire began on level three of the building.
“We got the fire on the third level of what we believe is a seven-level block we have people evacuating and firefighters entering this building to fight this fire,” he said.
As the blaze raged, parts of the building could be seen collapsing.
Police say nearby buildings in Surry Hills are being evacuated, with investigations into whether the main building alight was occupied.
There are major road closures in the area around Randle Street, as firefighters attempted to douse the flames.
People in the area screamed as walls began falling off the building.
