Wade Park is a “district” level park located in East Lismore which was impacted in the 2022 floods. Lismore City Council is developing a Masterplan for Wade Park which will guide future upgrades to the park and enable it to apply for grant funding opportunities as they arise.
Between December 14 and April 1, the Lismore community was invited to share their vision for Wade Park, a key open space and much-loved park.
More than 170 surveys were completed and close to 100 residents attended the two pop-up events in the park. At the pop-up events ideas were shared by the local community and stakeholders on what they would like to see in the park.
The top six important features which came out of this process include:
- Contemporary amenities block with accessible toilets and change facilities.
- Basketball/multipurpose courts.
- Adventure and nature play.
- Separated large and small fenced dog areas.
- New pump track with undulating landform.
- Stepping stones through low lying/flood-prone areas.
The council is currently reviewing this feedback which will inform the development of the draft masterplan of the park. Once completed, the community will be asked to have your say on the draft Masterplan in the upcoming months.
The Masterplan will provide:
- A revised vision for the creation of a sustainable park that offers a diverse mix of uses and activities for all ages and abilities.
- A long-term planning and design framework for climate resilience to support community recovery.
- Opportunities to revitalise the park and ensure access to quality recreation and leisure facilities.
Currently the park is mainly used for play, relaxation, picnics, walking the dog, and the road safety kid’s bike track.
Community feedback said that Wade Park is one of Lismore’s most important parks which many people have a connection with, is a great multipurpose community space, and with improvements has the capacity to be a renowned local attraction.
The development of the Masterplan is supported by NSW/ACT Parks and Leisure Australia through their ‘Lismore Legacy’ project.
The council thanked Context Landscape Architecture, Cred Consulting and Peak Water, who are providing their services to the council pro-bono.
The implementation of the final Masterplan is funding dependent and construction of upgrades may happen in multiple stages.
The feedback from the community engagement activities is currently being reviewed and will inform the draft Masterplan.
Once completed, the community will be asked for feedback on the draft masterplan in the upcoming months.
