A 15-year-old Queensland girl injured in a car crash near Gympie has died after a week of fighting for her life, as police continue to investigate what caused the collision.
Lilly Hayes, from Curra, succumbed to her injuries over the weekend. She died surrounded by family in Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

“This is something that no parent should have to go through and it is just so devastating that her life has been cut so short,” family friend Sherryn Wynne wrote on GoFundMe.
“Our sassy little Lilly had the whole world ahead of her.”
Lilly had been the passenger of a sedan that collided with a 4WD on rural Miva Rd in Gunalda about 2.30pm on June 10.
She was airlifted to hospital with catastrophic injuries, while the 23-year-old male driver, from Belmore River in NSW, was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
He remains in a serious condition.
Six occupants of the 4WD escaped with minor injuries.
Police have reiterated their appeal for witnesses following Lilly’s death, with the forensic crash investigation ongoing.
