Celtic will have an extra fan cheering them on next Saturday when they face Inverness Caley Thistle in the Scottish Cup Final.
Hibernian manager, Lee Johnson says he will be watching next week’s final looking for a favour from Ange Postecoglou’s men after his side failed to defeat Hearts in their plight for that fourth and final automatic European spot.
But should Celtic win the final and seal the treble, the place that would have went to Inverness now goes to the fifth-placed team in the league. And that would be the Edinburgh side.
Johnson said [The Scotsman], “We’ve got the summer to build that 30 per cent within the squad that we’re after – a bit more quality, change the dynamic a little bit, freshen the group up and then we go again.
“It’s a short summer which is good, but we need Celtic to do us a favour because we want to be in that European competition. I will be watching the final. I’ll be as nervous as any Celtic fan. Maybe I should recall Dan Mackay from his loan spell at Inverness before the final!”
Johnson almost pulled off what looked impossible just a couple of weeks ago. After beating Celtic on Wednesday night he had to defeat Hearts in the final game of the season at Tynecastle to ensure guaranteed European football next season.
The 1-1 draw yesterday confirmed a fifth-place finish and now that means that he now looks forward to next Saturday where he will look to swap the all-green of Hibs for the green and white hoops of Celtic. Albeit for just ninety minutes.
Like Johnston, the Celtic fans will also be hoping that the team win the Scottish Cup to finalise their name in the history books as the first team in the history of football to win eight domestic trebles.
