The Professional Bull Riding (PBR) Australia competition took over Rockhampton on the weekend and it was a Central Queensland rider who took out his home event.
Calliope’s Macaulie Leather earned an overall win in Rockhampton finishing top of the final two rounds to take out the tournament hosted at CQLX.
Riding bulls Mimi and Feldt Jacket to scores of 85.50 and 87.00 respectively, Leather took home a cash prize of almost $5000.
What makes the final ride even more impressive was the Feldt Jacket was previously undefeated and was ridden for the first time ever by Leather who conquered the beast.
That win has now seen Leather take out his fourth overall win in the past five events and has put him at the pinnacle of PBR Australia.
“It always feels good to get an event win,” said Leather.
“But I’m just happy to stay on my bulls.
“I’ve seen [Feldt Jacket] at the last few shows and he has just been progressing and getting better and better. So I thought [Sunday] I had the chance so why not.
“It’s always good to come back [to Rocky] and see how it’s all going.”
Clermont’s Aaron Kleier was CQ’s next best, finishing fifth overall with two rides of 82 and 86.
Dingo’s Brody Woodard finished in seventh place having ridden Hawkeye for a score of 84.50.
Jackson Gray (Barcaldine) and Brady Fielder (Clermont) also made the top 10 with 8/9 overall having tied on 84 points each.
Clermont’s Brumby Brandenburg, Yeppoon’s Ben Moran and Calliope’s Lijah Leather all also made an impact at the event.
The Yeti Bull of the night was a tie between Lost Soul and Mr T each with 44-point bull score.
The next PBR event will be the Monster Energy Tour Origin II in Brisbane where a handful of our locals will ride for Queensland.
