On the weekend of the 27th and 28th of May, the Capricorn District Cub Scouts took part in the annual Kub Kar Rallyee at Seeonee Park, lead by District Cub Scout Leader, Nathan Johnson and supported by Cub Scouts Leaders from the four groups in the district as well as Adult Helpers.
In the weeks leading up to the event, Cub Scouts from Mount Archer, Gracemere, Warripari and Yeppoon spent section nights crafting their wooden Kar, which must be built to a maximum weight.
Once built, the challenge is to design the Kar and prepare it to be raced against peers in patrols in an elimination-style race down a purpose-built track. After scrutineering of course.
Across the weekend, 50 Cub Scouts enjoyed the event, separating into three patrols to rotate through activities including geocaching, racing and campsite building.
The final race was set on a Saturday evening, and there were three finalists.
Laura from the Mount Archer Scout Group won the race, followed by Sully in Yeppoon and in third place was Bella from Gracemere.
It was a fun-filled weekend, and the Cub Scouts, Leaders, and Adult Helpers braved the overnight lows in their tents.
A 100% volunteer run event with many to thank for making it happen.
Cub Scouts work together to build not just Kub Kars but resilience, friendships and life skills to ensure the success and capability of our next generation of leaders.
