One of the busiest roads in Warwick will close this weekend when Warwick Castle hosts two huge summer concerts. Thousands of music lovers will descend on the medieval attraction for shows from former No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani and UB40 featuring Ali Campbell on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The gigs form part of the Within The Walls series of concerts at the 15th century castle. In the interests of public safety, Stratford Road will close to traffic, between its junctions with Shakespeare Street and Bowling Green Avenue, from 9.30pm to 11pm on both Friday and Saturday.
Warwickshire Police is urging residents and visitors to the town to plan ahead. A spokesperson said: “There are a number of events taking place at Warwick Castle this weekend which may result in more people and traffic in and around the town centre.
“Hopefully this disruption will be minimal but please plan your route in advance if you’re travelling near the castle.” The force has also shared advice from Counter Terror Policing encouraging gig goers to be patient with security checks and staff and to ‘report to security if you see something that doesn’t feel right.’
Stratford Road is also likely to close temporarily when five concerts are staged at the castle on consecutive nights in July. Bastille’s sold out show on Wednesday, July 19, will kickstart the run of shows.
Nile Rogers and Chic will perform on July 20, followed by Rag’N’Bone Man, Kaiser Chiefs and Will Young, who will be joined by special guests as he marks the 20-year anniversary of his famous Pop Idol win and the launch of his new Greatest Hits album.
