Kate Middleton paid sartorial homage to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana at multiple royal festivities over the weekend.
The Princess of Wales attended the Order of the Garter Service at Windsor Castle on Monday, wearing a black and white polka dot Alessandra Rich dress, featuring a high neckline, bishop sleeves, puff shoulders and a wrapped ruched waist detailing, reminiscent of the ensemble Princess Diana wore at Royal Ascot in 1988, designed by Victor Edelstein.
Both white dresses had black polka dots, high necks, long sleeves, and wrapped ruched waist detailing, but Middleton added even more similar elements to her look.
The mother of three wore a pair of pearl drop earrings, as did Diana, along with white pumps featuring a black cap toe.
While Diana adorned a matching white polka dot hat for the occasion, Middleton, however, opted for black millinery with pieces of a white polka-dotted material.
Not the only referential style moment up her sleeve, Middleton attended King Charles III’s first Trooping the Colour traditional parade since ascending the throne to mark the British Sovereign’s official birthday.
Middleton adorned a custom emerald green Andrew Gn coatdress for the occasion with a soft satin trim, to represent her status as Colonel of the Irish Guards – a clear nod to Diana’s green Catherine Walker dress with white trim that she wore with a matching hat during the Trooping of the Colour in 1988.
Middleton teamed her look with a matching green hat by Philip Treacy, her Cartier shamrock brooch and matched the coat’s blue bejeweled button embellishments to her sapphire engagement ring and earrings, which both belonged to Diana.
According to the Royal Watcher, Diana’s sapphire and diamond drop earrings originated from the strap of Princess Diana’s Saudi sapphire watch. The dangling sparklers first appeared on Diana during her trip to Vienna in 1986, worn with her sapphire and pearl choker.
After her passing in 1997, the earrings were inherited by her sons and remained publicly unworn for decades before Middleton scooped them up from the royal vaults.
Since then, Middleton has worn the earrings on several occasions, like at the 2022 Trooping the Colour and during her trip to Boston with her husband Prince William in November.
